Compared to previous models, the latest version of Jeep’s bite-sized SUV introduced rugged new styling elements, borrowed from the bigger Cherokee. The second-generation Compass was also the first to debut the off-road-ready Trailhawk trim model. Better still, all of these compact crossovers feature a stronger chassis and updated suspension tuning, making them more capable than ever in the dirt.

When the redesigned Compass appeared for the 2017 model year, its 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (180 horsepower, 175 pound-feet of torque) delivered a little more power than before. By the 2023 model year, this little crossover was up for even more adventure, thanks to its new 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine (200 hp, 221 lb-ft).

Important: There are two versions of the 2017 Compass. The first 2017 Compass to hit the streets was a first-generation model. Halfway through the model year, Jeep introduced the redesigned version, also known as the 2017 Compass.
